A mounded bowl of ice cream in flavors such as cotton candy, Twizzler, carrot cake and pistachio are perking up. They pushed aside utensils, all set to tunnel in with their hands.
Their goal: to eat four to six scoops of ice cream as soon as they can, win prizes and raising money for the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center.
"On your mark, get set, go," emcee Norma Holland of WHAM-TV (Channel 13) signaled the contestants, keen to stick their faces in ice cream.
It was the third annual "Scooper Bowl" at Eastview Mall at Victor, Ontario County - an ice cream consumption competition that rivals Nathan's hot dog eating contest in Brooklyn.

A survey conducted by a Singaporean market survey company during 2004 showed that the actual turnover of the ice cream market in Vietnam was VND667bil and the market rally had the growth of 15-20% per annum. This shows an attractive figure for investors, though the ice cream eating level of Vietnamese people is still low when compared to the world’s consumption level, just 0.3litres per capita per year (Source: Agriculture and Argo-Food Canada).
Experts said that Vietnam's ice cream market would see next strong growth for coming reasons. First, Vietnam's economy is developing fast with the GDP growth rate of 7.45% in the 2001-2005 periods. Second, fast population growth is also considered a reason after the increased insist for ice cream.
