Japan's sweet spot is hot


After years of staying slim on a modest diet of fish, vegetables and rice, Japanese are now planning to develop a sweet tooth. That's proving a business chance for fast-food chains from the U.S., home of the Big Gulp and supervised fries.Since opening in December, Japan's first Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. store is also drawing long lines for an hour-long waiting or larger just to get in. In the first three days, 10,000 people came to the shop. "The feel was feathery and sticky, unlike any other doughnut," said Yoji Yahagi, 22, who stood in line with his girlfriend to eat two chocolate doughnuts each.

Ice Cream Store Robbed For 2nd Time


A Lexington ice cream store was robbed last Sunday night for the second time in this year.Police stated a man walked into the Graeters store in the Brighton Place Shoppes just prior to 9:30 p.m. He allegedly pulled out a silver pistol, demanded money, and then ran away from the store. Police stated that they have a very indistinct description of the robber. He does describe as a white man in jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt with a red bandana covering his face. The same store was robbed as well in January.

Ice cream and ethics


Democrats exposed a package of ethics bills, which have repeatedly met beat in the Legislature, where mainly Republicans say they can't be bought for any price.

"I do not think it is suitable for legislators to get front-row, $500 seats to a Jazz game," House Minority Leader Ralph Becker, D-Salt Lake City, said of a preferred perk from lobbyists.

Ice cream shop hobbles in Lincolnton

One ice cream parlor has been replaced with another shop in city Lincolnton, with the new arrival planning a big opening in up coming week.

Melamoose Scoops and Java has recently moved on to the building at 119 E. Main St. that before housed Byrd's Sundries for more than five years. Melamoose opened a few weeks ago but would have a big opening event with the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce at 11 a.m. Next week.
