Ice Cream Social will be back on Jan 23

The Washington County Historical Society is bringing back, again, the ice cream socials of Stillwater's past. This year's ice cream social will have more flare, fire and ice cream than last year's event.

On Jan. 23, from 1-4 p.m. in South Lowell Park, there will be ice cream cones, coffee and chili for anybody who desires to thumb their nose at old man winter and get outside and take pleasure in what Minnesota is made of... namely ice, snow and the cold.

Back in 1950, Stillwater businessman Gib Larson of Snow land Foods, as well as other business people, seized the first winter ice cream social up at the St. Croix Boom Site. Even though the temperatures were well below zero more than a thousand people came out and enjoyed the ice cream and the flavor season.

The occasion was moved to Lowell Park the next year and later it moved to Lily Lake. The event was sponsored at that time by the Jaycees and eventually faded away like winter into springtime.

"This occasion brings together the past and the community," said Brent Peterson, decision-making director of the Washington County Historical Society. "What a great means to rejoice the place where we live and enjoy ice cream as well!"

The ice cream, cones and chili will be provided by Leo's Grill and Malt Shop and Alesci Furniture Gallery in downtown Stillwater. The coffee will be provided by the Supreme Bean Coffee Shop on North Main Street. The occasion is also sponsored by the Water Street Inn of Stillwater.

There will be a beacon going to keep the family humid and the St. Paul Saints Baseball team will also be on hand.

The happening is free to the public and donations to the Washington County Historical Society will be accepted.

Cameras capture bare man ripping Christmas decorations at a Carvel ice cream shop

VERO BEACH - Police state a homeless man did some Christmas bah-humbugging in the buff.
Early Tuesday morning, a safekeeping camera at the Carvel ice cream shop near Indian River Boulevard recorded a naked man ripping store Christmas decorations, causing less than $50 in damage counting heaving plant pots into a parking lot.

The man involved in the incident, between 2:30 and 3 a.m., has been recognized, but the store proprietor doesn't wish for to press charges, police Detective Matt Monaco said Thursday.

"We've had contacts through the man in the recent past," Monaco said. "He was resting (sleeping) in the area."

If the man returns, the owner does want the man charged with tr espassing, Monaco said.
The owner couldn't be reached for comment. And Monaco said the camera recording appears to have been returned to the store.

New Ice Cream Flavors Launched on Anglesey for Christmas

FOUR new ice cream flavors are being launched on Anglesey in time for Christmas.
















They have been developed by Helen Holland at her Mon ar Lwy ice cream business at Ty'n Rallt, Bodorgan.
She is also planning to step up production capacity to cater for increasing demand for the hand crafted products. A dairy being built at the premises is expected to be open by Easter.
"We are coming up to the second birthday of Mon ar Lwy and the company is going from strength to strength",she said.
"Over the past two years I have focused on developing flavors we now have more than 50 different flavors.
"We are in the process of building our own dairy at the farm and once that is ready I will be able to increase production.
"It will also give me the ability to target markets further afield. At present I sell into shops, restaurants and hotels in North Wales."
The new ice creams will be on sale at a food fair in Caernarfon, a food and craft festival at Glynllifon, a farmers market at Plas Newydd, Llanfairpwll, and an event at Ysgol David Hughes, Menai, Bridge, in the run up to Christmas.
